Best States to live and do business

What is best depends on one's lifestyle and business.

The case for living in DE:

  1. Lowest property tax.
  2. No sales tax.
  3. Bicycle friendly almost everywhere.
  4. Modest housing prices.
  5. Close to beaches.
  6. Close to major international airports for traveling to Europe. Southern DE is a 2-hour drive to Philadelphia International Airport. With the rapid development of autonomous driving, highway autonomy may not be too far away, so driving to the airport may not be a waste of time.

Cons:

  1. Slightly high maximum personal income tax rate.
  2. DE does not recognize S-Corp, and it taxes 8.7% of S-Corp income (not revenue). This is usually minimal or even zero because it taxes income that comes from DE. If you sell services to other states and software online worldwide, the tax is zero.

A good place for looking for a home in northern DE:

  • Overlook at Bayberry is great for jogging and biking
  • Venue at Winchelsea 55+ is great for jogging and biking
  • Darley Green is too urban.
  • Ponds of Odessa is not good for jogging or biking.

The case for living in NC:

  1. Low and simple tax burden.
  2. Pragmatic government with common sense.
  3. Reasonable housing prices.
  4. The electricity rate is half that of MA.
  5. A large state with bountiful opportunities.
  6. Great education.
  7. Atlantic Ocean.
  8. East Coast good for traveling to Europe.
  9. Four-season weather with beautiful mountains to winter sports.

The case for living in TX:

  1. Low and simple tax burden (4% income tax and $200 corporation franchise tax).
  2. Pragmatic government with common sense.
  3. Reasonable housing prices.
  4. The electricity rate is half that of MA.
  5. A large state with bountiful opportunities.
  6. Great education.
