China continues to lead the world in intellectual property piracy.  Russia and India are the distant 2nd and 3rd respectively.  Microsoft loses 95% potential revenue in China due to piracy. China's leadership in IP piracy is not only in rampancy but also in technology. One of my smartphone apps had its pirated copy on 新锋网 - a popular Chinese site dedicated to Windows Phone 7 softwrae piracy - almost instantly after its publication on Windows Phone 7 Markeplace.  The state-of-the-art piracy technology in China has highly automated the piracy process.

Industrial espionage is a norm in China.

IP piracy, which is cheating in essence,  in China is expected because the regime in China obtained the power by cheating - they promised Chinese people democracy, but established its one-party totalitarian regime after people rallied behind them, and defeated the Nationalist dictatoship. The regime brainwashes students with textbooks full of lies.  Their mouthpieces (i.e. tightly controlled media) tell lies all the time.  In summary, the regime has successfully engrained cheating into the modern Chinese culture. With this type of culture, people have no sense of guilt when cheating. Though IP piracy is illegal officially, but the regime had no real intention to stop it.  If they spent a tiny fraction of their resource spent on preventing free speech, the IP piracy in China would be reduced dramatically.

The US wastes over a trillion dollars on the counterproductive Iraq War.  To the contrary, it could earn the US a trillion dollars over a decade if it fought an anti-IP piracy war in China.
