Comcast
Its Performance Internet service offers 20Mbps download speed and 4Mbps upload speed.
I lost my internet connection soon after Nor’Easter Blizzard Nemo, and it lasted for almost 2 days. I talked to the technical support of Comcast for over an hour, she transferred me to a higher level support after failing to address the problem. The so-called higher level technical support was a new service package activation confirmation system. I answered yes, yes… without knowing what exactly it was in order to quickly get to a person. There was no one there after the confirmation finished. I worried about subscribing to something by mistake, I called Comcast and a rep told me nothing had changed to account.
Comcast scheduled a technician to come to my place to check the internet connection issue, and the appointment was canceled a few hours before the scheduled time because they found there was a problem in our area, and a whole block of residents were affected. I do not know how many hours I wasted on trying to figure out why MY connection was lost. They fixed the problem eventually.
I found by checking my account online that a new package including voice and TV that I never need (I do not even have a TV set or regular phone) was added. I called Comcast again, they confirmed this, reversed the change, and assured me there was not charge.
A week or so later, I received a big package with all kinds of equipment of cable TV and voice mail. I contacted Comcast, and they requested me to return the package that was sent to me by mistake to a local office, so I did the next day on my way to a meeting in Boston.
Two weeks later, I found there was a recurring charge of about $80 on my account for the package sent to me by mistake. I had to spend half an hour to straighten this out with a Comcast representative.
I was experiencing the interne outage problem a few time every week starting from Nor'Easter Blizzard Nemo. When I asked for help on the forum of Comcast, I was suggested to check the status of my modem - Motorola Corporation sb5120 – at http://192.168.100.1. This is a great feature of the modem that I wish I had known much earlier. The upstream power level of 54 dBmV was extraordinarily high (the normal range is – 9 to +9 dBmV.
I contacted Comcast and a rep did something on their side, then told me that she was sure the problem was fixed, and I just needed to power cycle everything. I did it, but saw no change. I talked to another Comcast technical support rep, and she believed that my modem was problematic. I checked the modem getting rid all the splitters between the wall jack and the modem, and saw the upstream power level went down to 50 dBmV.
I have just ordered the last Zoom 5341J in stock.
