Computer attacks from China

It is given these days that any computer exposed to the Internet is subject to frequent  attacks.  Those running servers (e.g. SQL server) are particularly attractive to attacks.

Most attacks from China probably because of the following two reasons:

1. Lawless computer use is a norm in China.   For example, most people in Mainland China do not understand the concept intellectual property.  Spending money to buy authentic software is alien to them. This is also true when it comes to computer attack.  There are even schools training people to hack computers for profit.  The regime's only concern regarding computer use is filtering out expressions detrimental to its stability.  Of course, it is quite possible that the regime's intelligence agencies sponsor or organize deliberate attacks for stealing information.
2. Virus infection is ubiquitous in Mainland China.  Probably most attacks are from infected computers, not from computers intentionally set up to hack other computers. 

There are usually two ways to block the attacks. 1. Configure the router to block connections from certain IP addresses. 2.  Configure the computer to filter IP addresses.

Nothing is more effective than having a law to prohibit computer hacking and enforcing the law vigorously for determent.
