Monitor power consumption and a tiny program to turn off monitors

The power consumption of monitors used to be neglected when most computers each had only one small LCD, and it was a small fraction of the power used by the computer.  With the increase of monitor sizes and the number of monitors connected to a computer, it can a substantial part of the power consumption of a computer system. The power consumption of some large monitors is comparable to that of CRT monitors which have just been obsoleted.  It is wise in every sense to turning off monitors a computer is not attended.

There quite a few programs to turn off computer. I never wanted to spend any time on making one until after trying two popular ones, and was unhappy with them.  For example, one leaves a ghost process every time it runs.

This tiny 4.5KB program does nothing but turning off monitors. You can create a shortcut by: right-click TurnOffMonitor.exe > Create shortcut.  Then you can assign a shortcut key by: right-click the shortcut > Properties > click Shortcut key field > press the desired shortcut key (e.g. Ctrl + Alt + T).
