The case against Amazon
- It promotes its Prime membership very aggressively.
- I have ordered half a dozen items from Amazon in the past year, but I am not yet eligible to review any of them because I paid for them with my gift card. I do not understand how the payment method is related to the eligibility. The money from my gift card is no different from the money from my credit cards.
- One ordered item was defective. The return process was not bad - I just dropped it at a Staples. They promised to send a new one. I did not get the replacement for weeks, so I started to look into it and found out they canceled the replacement order without notifying me. It took some work to get the refund.
- The prevents vendors from responding to reviews. I cannot think of any reason for them to do this.
- Most of Amazon's profits are from their cloud service, though most of their workers work for their e-Commerce business. I wonder how much Amazon is motivated to improve their e-Commerce.
I have largely stopped buying from Amazon. I am shifting to Walmart.
