Ubiquitous Spinelessness

The recent excellent article Scholars with Spine published by National Review provides a good picture of the current status of American Sinologists – a large number of scholars kowtowing to the Chinese totalitarian regime.  This reminds me of what happened at 2010 Nobel Peace Prize Award Ceremony that shows plenty of lily-livered people and countries.

Firstly, 19 countries skipped the ceremony kowtowing to the pressure of the Chinese regime.

Secondly, Liu’s family expressed the wish to hear music from Children when asked about the music performance part of the ceremony, but the Nobel Committee could not find a Chinese children ensemble in Europe that has the courage to perform for a fellow Chinese who is admired around the world.  Fortunately, they eventually found Lynn Chang, a Chinese American violinist who teaches at the Boston Conservatory, to perform for Dr. Liu. There are potential repercussions for Chang, but he did it anyway.

Within China, CCP’s royal scholars, or more accurately, lapdog spineless scholars are everywhere.

It is amazing that people living on a free land are willing to give up freedom due to a distant totalitarian regime.

Many have given up lives for the freedom others, but some quickly give up their fundamental freedom - freedom of speech - for some financial or career gains.

There have been, and there will always be heroes and cowards.
