Can Chinese people afford to wait for the regime to tackle the severe pollution?

 While the wealthy and government officials are busy moving their families and assets overseas, one cannot help wondering if they care about the environment of China at all.  Global Financial Integrity estimates that from 2000 to 2011, $3.79 trillion flew out of China illicitly.  The severe pollution literally kills thousands of people daily.

Since it usually takes a long time for environmental protection measures to take effect, should Chinese people have some sense of urgency in taking actions to save their lives?  At least, they can do the following:

1. Demand high transparency of environmental data related to the primary source of pollution – factories, power plants.  The information of their pollutants release and their adverse effects on health can be an effective wake-up call.
2. Demand higher fuel standards.
3. Demand an aggressive plan to transfer fossil fuel power plants to cleaner energy power plants.
