Computers for non-gamers

Many expensive computers are geared toward gamers. CPUs, and even more expensive video cards are primarily for playing demanding games.

For non-gamers, the following will make a computer with good performance:

  1. SSD for the primary drive.  This is as important as CPU, but often overlooked by many users.
  2. A fast, not the top of line, CPU.  As of now (2018-11-26), AMD Ryzen 7 2700 8-core CPU with is an excellent choice.  Among all Ryzen 7 CPUs,  it is the second fastest one with power consumption among the lowest (64W).
  3. Fast memory.  As of now (2018-11-26), any DDR4 3000 memory should be more than sufficient.

There is no need to invest hundreds of dollars on fancy video cards that primarily target gamers.
