Presidential Debate Degraded to Another Reality Show
I finally seriously watched a (recorded) presidential debate - the one in New Hampshire on Sunday 2012-01-08 hosted by NBC though I used fast forward key frequently. Even though it was a serious event for electing someone in charge of trillions of dollars of our taxpayers' money, NBC could not get out of its nature - profit-driven commercial TV - to do something in the best way to serve this country. They tried hard to make it as dramatic as possible to attract viewers who are more interested in dramas than serious policies. Instead of trying to bring out the true ideas and characters of all the candidates for a contest and comparison, the host focused on stirring fights among them for issues that are far less important than what is the best policy to maintain a prosperous and just America.
It may be a good idea to eliminate presidential debates hosted by commercial TV companies. It is best done by candidates shunning such debates voluntarily as they did for Donal Trump's proposed debate.
