A recent survey by two Chinese government controlled institutions shows that the expenditure on food and drink for entertainment by government agencies totals ¥896.3 billion (US$ 141 billion).
For comparison, the recent USA GSA scandal of lavish spending in the amount of $823K has caused outrage in the US. Lavish government spending of such scale happens daily in China. One banquet easily costs what is spent on the children of a school for a whole year in poor areas.
