The energy density of kerosene is 43MJ/kg. The price of kerosene at Lowes is $8.8/gallon. The density of kerosene is 0.8 g/cm3. 1 gallon = 3785.4 cm3
The heat cost from kerosene is 8.8/(3785.4x0.8/1000*43) = $0.07/MJ.
The electricity price is about $0.15/KWH, so the cost of heating with electricity heater is 0.15/(1000x60x60/1000000) = $0.04/MJ.
Considering the hassle of and pollution (including smell) of using kerosene for heating, it can be justified only if the price is below $3/gallon to bring the cost to $0.023/MJ.
