Video resolutions
If those *GA jargons (e.g. VGA, XGA, UXGA) are not confusing enough, there are *CIF ones (e.g. QCIF, 4CIF, DCIF) for video teleconferencing systems. My friend CJ, a surveillance system pro, has a collection of materials explaining all of them well:
- A chart explaining *GA and HD*.
- A chart similar to the above but with the additional HD area (yellow).
- A chart showing the meaning of 1MP, 1.3MP, 5MP, etc. that are often seen in camera descriptions.
I have drawn the following chart to show the actual sizes of CIF (Common Intermediate Format) related resolutions based Wikipedia and CJ's tip.
